In this article I will cover the most common questions I get on muscle building workout routines.
Q. What are the best muscle building exercises?
A. The exercises that work best for building muscle size and strength are the basic compound exercises: squats, deadlifts, bench press, barbell row, chin ups, press over head, curls, tricep extensions, etc.
Q. How many exercises per muscle group?
A. This depends of course on if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced. But I feel one to three exercises for each body part will get the job done if you choose the right exercises and are working hard enough.
Q. How many sets for each exercise?
A. Once again this depends on experience, but 1 to 3 sets per exercise seems to work best for building muscle.
Q. How many reps should I do for mass?
A. Most people will make the best size gains working in the 6 to 10 rep range.
Q. How many times a week should I work a muscle group?
A. It seem that twice a week works best, as once a week is not enough and three times a week is too often for most people and leads to over training.
